Regarding DSP Peak Conditions

Hi

When I load a significant number of plugins, the DSP meter occasionally spikes after the system has been running for a while. Is this caused by a specific plugin, or is it a system-related issue? How can I prevent this from happening?

Hi QQQQQ,

Thanks for the report.

This is typically plugin-related. Some plugins introduce periodic processing spikes, which show up as brief DSP jumps. We’ve seen this with some plugin manufacturers licensing methods, but it can happen with others depending on what they’re doing internally.

System wide conditions would typically present as DSP budget fluctuations, so it sounds to me to be a plugin. This can be caused by higher temperatures or clocking issues.

A good way to narrow down if a plugin is fluctuating would be to smite plugins on an affected chain one by one and observe the DSP meter at the base of the chain. That should help identify the specific plugin is causing the spike.

If you find one, feel free to send over any details so we can investigate and follow up with the manufacturer. If it seems more system-wide (fluctuating DSP Budget instead of fluctuating chain DSP), it would be helpful to have your Client and Core logs and showfile so we can investigate further.

Happy to take a closer look with you.

Best,
Ross
