Maybe I am over thinking this.
The specs say channel count 16x16.
So is that 16 Mono “Racks” / 8 Stereo “Racks” or is it 16 Racks that can be Mono or Stereo?
I assume that it just means you only get 16 streams of audio into the engine.

The 16x16 spec refers to 16 channels in and 16 channels out at the audio I/O level. So effectively, you’ve got 16 mono inputs and 16 mono outputs available to the engine through any audio transport (Dante, HYPERPORT, gigaACE, or DX).
How you use those is completely flexible. You can treat them as:
16 mono, 8 stereo, multi channel formats (for example a single 9.1.6 bus), or any combination of these(mono to 5.1, 7.1.4 to LRC, ect).
